If you need to find a decent RSS 2.0 Specification, look at the Google RSS spec. They will show you a basic example, and how to extend RSS 2.0 as well.
RSS is a good way to get used to XML, since it is clearly defined and fairly easy to figure out. If you are going to need to be building your own xml, this is a good place to get started.
